Tues Aug 19 -- 9:15 AM

Erine (Leighton's father-in-law) just left the hospital with some positve news this morning. Liesl is breathing on her own. She is getting the lowest dose of oxygen going in via trach as a precaution. The doctors are weaning her off sedation to see how she will react. She does continue to have a low grade fever, but the doctor's seem to have this under control.

Although this is very good news, please remember to be cautiously optimistic. Liesl still needs your good thoughts and prayers. It has meant so much to the family to know that so many people know and love Liesl.

I am praying for Liesl.. I know she will make it but... I have a question - did they ever find out about the actual accident? The elderly person that hit her... was that person under the influence? not paying attention? Was Liesl wearing a seat belt? Any other information on that event?

thank you

Phillip

Phillip,

Thank you for asking about the other driver. He was treated and released from the hospital, perhaps spending only one day. As it turns out, he has no broken pelvis or hips. He has bumps and bruises, and cracked ribs and is recovering at home. We continue to pray for his return to full health.

Neither Liesl nor the other driver was under the influence of any drugs, medications, or alchohol.

Liesl, thankfully, was wearing her seatbelt. Here is an advertisement from her mother (me) to all of you sweet friends of Liesl:

PLEASE FOLLOW HER EXAMPLE AND BUCKLE UP EVERY TIME. YOU ARE PRECIOUS TO YOUR PARENTS AND FRIENDS! PLEASE REMEMBER THIS EVERY TIME YOU GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR!!!

My name is Kristen Beevers. I am a nurse from New Orleans that moved out of Shreveport, LA last month. I was made aware of Liesl's accident through a friend in New Orleans via email. Though I do not know you, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I have forwarded the email I received to the local leaders of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Shreveport, Tom and Marjorie Rivers. I do not know your faith background, but I wanted to let you know about a beautiful prayer group that meets on Wed. nights at St. Johns Cathedral in the St. Michael chapel at 7pm. You will find support and comfort there. Tom and Marjorie are ordained lay ministers from the Fr. Seelos Center in New Orleans. They go to the local hospitals and pray with the sick. Just wanted to pass on some hope.
May God comfort and console you and your family.
Sincerely,
Kristen Beevers kkubes@juno.com
