Dear Friends and Family of Liesl Becker --
For those of you who are unaware, Liesl was driving from her brother's wedding reception to her hotel room in Bossier City (near Shreveport, Louisiana) when she was hit by an oncoming car on Sunday night, August 10. Fortunately, there were two off-duty detectives who witnessed the accident and called for medical help immediately. Her condition on the scene was that she was not conscious nor breathing on her own.
As of Wednesday morning, her condition has not changed much. While she appears to have no broken bones or lacerations, she is in serious condition as she suffers from trauma to her brain. She is being assisted in her breathing, and the doctors are working to manage a fever. In addition, she has a tube being used to drain excess fluid from her brain and the doctors are working to keep the pressure on her brain within normal parameters. This is requiring medication every 6 hours.
Her father and brother remain at her side as often as allowed by the hospital. As updates become available, I will post them here. If you wish to leave your comments and well-wishes, that would be fine. She is at the LSU HOSPITAL (1501 Kings Hwy Shreveport, Louisiana 71130). At this time, she can no no visitors other than her immediate family. Several of you have asked if you may send gifts, but at this time, it would probably be helpful to hold off on that, as she remains unconscious and in the ICU.
Also, if we have any family needs either here in Memphis or in Shreveport, we will post them here. All of the Beckers wish to send our thanks for the innumerable prayers being offered on our behalf, and especially on Liesl's behalf.

Liesl,
I just found out today about this tragedy, and it deeply saddens me that such an unfortunate incident has occurred. You've always been a great friend and colleague, and I know that you'll pull through. You will remain in my prayers.
